Hampshire senior citizens who have become empty nesters or just need a smaller and lighter trash receptacle because they no longer throw away as much garbage should not be charged $35 by Waste Management for the switch, Hampshire Trustee Jan Kraus said during the recent village board meeting.

“Seniors are allowed to switch for free one time only,” Kraus said. “If they have been charged, they should let the village know.”

For information, contact village hall at 234 South State Street in Hampshire, 847-683-2181.
