The 12th consecutive Crayons for Kids school-supply drive collected nearly 26,000 packages of supplies for children in the Fox Valley area.

More than 150 volunteers from Rosary High School and Marmion Academy in Aurora, including students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni, collected supplies at 13 area Jewel-Osco stores over two weekends in July.

The collection will benefit 73 schools and agencies in the Fox Valley area, covering 11 communities, organizers said.

The Crayons for Kids project was organized by Marmion campus minister Mark Malkowski, and Rosary High School coordinators this year were recently graduated Monica Zimmerman and Mary Clare Koebel of the Class of 2019. Crayons for Kids was started by Marmion grad Brian Zimmerman.

“Crayons for Kids exemplifies what is at the core of the Marmion Academy and Rosary High School communities: answering the call to live out our faith in service to others, just as Christ did,” Malkowski said. “Our students, parents, faculty and staff members have given of their time year after year to provide supplies that many of us take for granted to those who could not otherwise afford them. Through this service, thousands of area school children are able to engage in a more well-rounded educational experience.”

Rosary High School is a Catholic college-preparatory high school for young women, at 901 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora, and sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield.
