Gale Sayers’ six touchdowns — four rushes, one pass reception and a punt return — against San Francisco in 1965 tied the NFL record and put an exclamation mark on his sensational rookie season. Sayers seemed to be the only player who could keep his footing during the 61-20 romp in the mud of Wrigley Field. The win improved the Bears to 9-4 and avenged a 52-24 opening day loss to the 49ers that same season.
