Lyons quarterback Ben Bryant was the master of the big play in his team’s 38-13 defeat of Leyden on Friday, Sept. 16, in a West Suburban crossover.
Bryant completed a 52-yard pass to Riley Kloes that set up Lyons’ second touchdown early in the second quarter. Midway through the third, he connected with Howard Willis on a 76-yard score that put the Lions up 21-6.
Early in the fourth quarter, Bryant hit Hasahn Austin on a 51-yard pass. Two plays later, he found Austin in the end zone on a 21-yarder to increase Lyons’ lead to 35-6.
“That’s why he is who he is,” Lyons coach Kurt Weinberg said. “He can do things a lot of people can’t do.”
Bryant completed 15 of 20 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns, and the junior also ran for a score to help his team improve to 4-0.
“I just want to give all my credit to the line — they played great,” Bryant said. “There wasn’t a ton of pressure, and the receivers caught the ball really good in some tough situations.”
Leyden (2-2) was paced by Dom Fredrickson, who had a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
