The expected completion of the trade that would send Wade Davis to the Chicago Cubs could accelerate the free agent market for closers Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen.

A deal that would send Davis to the Cubs for outfielder Jorge Soler is expected to be completed after physical examinations are completed, a source said.

With Mark Melancon agreeing to terms Monday with the San Francisco Giants and Davis’ deal imminent, that leaves Chapman and Jansen as the top free-agent closers.

Chapman, who helped lead the Cubs to their first World Series title since 1908, and Jansen have received offers from the New York Yankees. A source said last month that Jansen had interest in the Cubs, but he is seeking a multi-year deal that is too robust for the Cubs.

Chapman, meanwhile, could command the largest contract for a closer. ESPN reported that Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has approved the necessary spending should the team reach an agreement with Chapman or Jansen.
