Franklin Park police said two men were charged and two other people injured in a shooting earlier this month near the intersection of 25th and Franklin avenues.

Michael Witz, Franklin Park’s director of police, said officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 13 in the 3100 block of Rose Street.

“Officers on the scene found two victims — one shot multiple times, while the other person was shot only once,” Witz said. For one of the victims, he said, a bullet caused a “through and through wound” that caused injuries to both legs. On Monday, he said both were taken to hospitals and last were reported in stable condition.

Schaumburg resident Gerardo Martinez, 23, and Bensenville resident Brian Lehnert, 37, had reportedly gotten into an altercation with the two shooting victims while in Schiller Park, police said.

Police said that the altercation led to a series of “bantering back-and-forth messages” through social media that led to Martinez and Lehnert meeting up with and then shooting at the two other people while in Franklin Park.

Martinez was charged with felony possession and use of a firearm and was ordered held on a $25,000 bond. Lehnert was charged with aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm and ordered held on a $1 million bond. Both were expected to appear in court next on Feb. 10 at the Maywood courthouse.
