After co-workers took up a collection to help a fellow departing Jewel-Osco employee with bills, someone stole the envelope of cash from a filing cabinet, according to a Buffalo Grove police report on the theft.
According to a Buffalo Grove police report, the staff of the grocery store at 79 N. McHenry Road collected $120 in cash to assist one of their own who was about to leave the company.
On Jan. 17, the manager gathered the donations in an envelope and placed it, along with a “good luck” card, in an unlocked office filing cabinet. Either that night or early Jan. 18, someone stole the departing employee’s donations and the greeting card, the report said.
The report also showed that, in recent days, the employees’ area has suffered “numerous instances of missing small amounts of cash.”
Managers at the grocery store did not return calls seeking comment about the thefts.
