Thirteen Lake County and three Porter County cities and towns have been awarded state matching grants for local road and bridge projects.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said last week more than $84 million in Community Crossings grants were earmarked for 147 cities, towns and counties statewide.
Earlier in the year, the state made $81 million in grant awards.
Gov. Mike Braun said in a release that he authored the Community Crossings legislation for local road projects when he served in the state General Assembly.
“Indiana is the crossroads of America and Hoosiers rely on our strong roads and infrastructure to drive economic growth and strong communities,” he said.
Braun liked the matching fund aspect of the grants “because it encourages skin in the game from local communities and that will always generate better results.”
