Charges have been filed in the fatal stabbing of a man near Metra tracks in the Fulton River District, authorities said.

Kevin Alexander, 23, of the 3000 block of West Fulton Boulevard, was charged Thursday with first-degree murder, police said. He was arrested shortly after the stabbing, which occurred around 3:20 p.m. in the 200 block of North Clinton Street.

Alexander is accused of stabbing 24-year-old Walter Long Jr. after the two got into a fight, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Alexander was taken into custody at the University of Illinois-Chicago Hospital around 5:25 p.m. as he was being treated for a laceration to the chin, police said.

He is slated to appear at the Leighton Criminal Court Building on Friday for a bond hearing.
