Children from the Elmwood Park Early Childhood Center took part in an annual tradition — the spring bonnet parade — on March 24.

The school’s principal, Joanne Rice, said in an email that the event has taken place since 2002.

“Families are encouraged to create bonnets that express their child’s interests and individuality,” she said. “This is a great family activity, and many parents remark how they enjoy getting creative with their children. We’ve had very elaborate floral displays on bonnets, Lego hats, unicorn hats, bunny hats … children love showing off their creations.”

Rice said the event is meant to celebrate spring. Parents, grandparents and siblings are invited. She said community members often line the walkways as the students walk around the village’s Circle area.

“My favorite part of the parade is watching children stroll along the Circle, excited about their hats while enjoying the walk with their friends and family,” Rice said.
