A man who died Sunday morning after he was found with stab wounds to his head and neck in a Gresham alley has been identified, authorities said.
Robert Cox, 62, of the 800 block of North Richmond Street, was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:04 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police initially said the victim appeared to be between the ages of 40 and 45.
The man was discovered about 12:40 a.m. Sunday lying facedown in an alley near the corner of West 85th Street and South Peoria Street, Chicago police said.
He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
Police had roped off a narrow garage-lined strip of the alley behind homes as they investigated Sunday morning.
The circumstances of the stabbing were unknown.
