Kathleen M. White has won the write-in race to be elected River Forest village clerk, according to certified election results released by the Cook County Clerk’s Office on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the results, White took home 75.89 percent of the vote, while fellow write-in candidate Calvin R. Davis received 23.9 percent.
“I am so grateful to all my family, friends, neighbors and River Forest residents for their support,” White said. “I look forward to getting started.”
White will replace current Village Clerk Sharon Halperin, who did not seek re-election.
White and Davis had actively campaigned to seek the village clerk office as write-in candidates after no candidate had filed to appear on the April 4 ballot.
Laura Chiero-Perna had also signed up as an official write-in candidate and received 1 write-in vote.
White will join incumbent village trustee Thomas Cargie and newly elected village trustees Respicio F. Vazquez and Patty Henek on the village board when they are sworn in next month. Village President Cathy Adduci, who ran unopposed, was also elected to another term.
According to Cook County Clerk’s Office spokesman James Scalzitti, the official voter turnouts in River Forest and Oak Park were 20.9 percent and 33.2 percent, respectively. Overall turnout in suburban Cook County was 17.8 percent, Scalzitti said.
