
Garden walk tickets go on sale Monday
Tickets will be available Monday, May 1, for Naperville Garden Club’s annual garden walk, offering views of look at five summer gardens through a self-guided walk will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 10.
Tickets for the self-guided walk are $10 through June 9 and $12 on June 10. They can be purchased at these Naperville locations: Buikema’s Ace Hardware, 963 W. 75th St.; Lizzie’s Garden, 24254 111th St.; and The Growing Place, 25W471 Plank Road in Naperville and 2000 Montgomery Road in Aurora.
They are also available online at www.napervillegardenclub.org.
Ogden lanes closures for culvert wall repairs
The Illinois Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin replacing the culvert wall along Ogden Avenue over Cress Creek starting the week of Monday, May 1.
The curb lane of eastbound Ogden Avenue between Royal St. George and Benedetti drives at the creek will close to traffic between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays while the wall is being replaced.
Work is expected to be complete in June.

‘Chat with the Chief’ event on May 6
Naperville Police Chief Robert Marshall will host a “Chat with the Chief” event from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at Panera Bread, 1191 E. Ogden Ave.
Marshall and his senior staff will be available to answers questions about the department in an informal meet-and-greet. No formal presentation will be given.

Atwater Park open house planned
Residents interested in helping select playground equipment for Atwater Park can attend an open house from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at the Naperville Park District Planning and Development Office, 425 W. Jackson Ave.
Atwater Park on Capeside Drive in northwest Naperville will serve the new subdivision being developed on the former Country Lakes Golf Course property.
Parents can bring their children and may come any time during the open house. No formal presentation will be given.
NAACP seeking nominations for student leaders
The Education Committee for the DuPage County Branch of the NAACP is seeking to recognize students serving in young leadership roles.
Residents can nominate up to two students in 4th through 12th grades who demonstrate leadership at church, in the community or for an organization.
Nominations must be turned in by 5 p.m. Monday, May 15, and student leaders will be recognized at the annual education breakfast on June 10 at the Ann Reid Early Childhood Center, 1011 S. Naper Blvd.

Candlelight Vigil for eating disorders planned
Linden Oaks Behavioral Health and the National Association for Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Eating Disorders will host its 14th annual candlelight vigil for those affected by eating disorders from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, in the Healing Garden at Linden Oaks Behavioral Health at Edward Hospital, 801 S. Washington St.
The theme is “Stepping Stones” and speakers will share inspiring messages. The vigil is open to the public.
The vigil is held each year to provide support for families, commemorate those who have lost their lives, recognize those who have recovered and encourage recovery.
More than 300 people are expected to attend.
Children’s Museum offering adult math program
The DuPage Children’s Museum is hosting a program for adults on how to engage young children in math.
The program, “Everywhere Math,” will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 19, and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, and will feature inspirational speakers. The program is designed for parents, educators, day-care providers or anyone who works with 2- to 5-year-old children.
Participants will learn how to use play to teach math and how music can help children understand math.
The cost for the Friday session is $25 per person and the Saturday session is $50 per person. To attend both, the cost is $70 per person.

‘Hustle Up the Hill’ homeless walk/run
The 3rd annual “Hustle Up the Hill for the Homeless” walk and run will take place Sunday, May 21, at Mount Hoy in Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville.
Heats are set for 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. The annual run is sponsored by St. Irene’s Bridge Communities ministry and raises funds to support a homeless family by providing housing, food and clothing to help them on their way to self-sufficiency.
About 40 of the 125 participants currently registered are Naperville residents.
Registration fees are $30 per person or $100 for a four-person team. Day-of registration fees are $35.
