Naperville police made a gun-related arrest at the Topgolf sports venue for the first time since November 2025.
The loaded weapon was discovered about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after officers doing a foot patrol of the business’ parking lot at 3211 Odyssey Court “observed the handle of a firearm partially inside/underneath a crossbody bag on the driver’s side floorboard of a white Volkswagen.”
They waited for the car’s driver — Jamon Roberts, 29, of south suburban Richton Park — to return to the vehicle to take him into custody, a news release from the Naperville Police Department and DuPage County state’s attorney’s office said.
A Glock 9 mm firearm with one bullet in the chamber and 15 rounds in the magazine was recovered, the release said.
Roberts, a convicted felon currently on probation for illegally possessing a firearm in Cook County, has been charged with one felony count each of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon-previous felony conviction, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and unlawful possession of a weapon-no firearm owner’s ID or concealed carry license.
DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden granted the state’s motion Thursday that Roberts be held in the county jail pending the outcome of his case, the release said. Roberts’ next court appearance is scheduled for June 30.
“Every illegal firearm we take off the street is one less opportunity for violence in our community,” Police Chief Jason Arres said in the release. “The allegations in this case are particularly concerning because this loaded handgun was allegedly possessed by a convicted felon at a popular family-oriented entertainment venue frequented by residents and visitors alike.”
Arrests on gun-related charges were a monthly and sometimes weekly occurrence at Topgolf for two years until coming to a stop in November 2025. After 46 arrests, police said last week that they hoped patrons had learned the department would not tolerate weapons being brought to the sports entertainment complex.
