The Aurora Historical Society will use the grounds of the Tanner House Museum to honor the Cosmopolitan Club of Aurora on its 90th anniversary.
A gathering from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday will highlight the history of the club and the current work it does to fund diabetes research and wellness programs, according to a press release from the Historical Society.
The club was a sponsor of the Tanner House during the 1950s through the 1970s. Members were required to join the Historical Society and the club took care of grass cutting, snow shoveling and almost all maintenance tasks during that time, according to the release.
A special visitor to the event will be Stanley, the diabetic alert dog who will accompany 10-year-old Frankie Bush of Oswego. Visitors will be able to learn more about the relationship between Frankie and Stanley and also learn about the club’s project of sending diabetic children to special summer camps.
Entrance to the Tanner House Museum will be free and docents will be on hand to explain the house, the family, and the development of the nation during the period 1875-1900. The house was built by William and Anna Tanner in 1857.
A free raffle and refreshments and a hand puppet show will be part of the gathering, according to the release.
