A man tried to rob a Chase Bank branch Wednesday morning in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the Far South Side, the FBI said.

The attempted robbery happened shortly after 8:20 a.m. at a Chase Bank at 9450 S. Jeffery Blvd., officials said. Earlier information had been that the robbery was successful, but that was not correct, an FBI spokesman said.

The would-be robber was described as a black man, standing about 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7, with a slim build. He was wearing a white hardhat, an orange and yellow work vest, and dark colored pants, with a black Under Armour mask covering his face, according to the FBI.

The FBI released a surveillance photo of the would-be robber, but it was low resolution.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call the Chicago office of the FBI at 312-421-6700.
