A longstanding tradition continues with River Forest’s 92nd Annual Memorial Day Parade, 10 a.m. May 29 from Constitution Park, Greenfield St. and Franklin Ave., to Keystone Park, Lake St. and Keystone Ave.

“It’s the biggest event in the community for the year,” said Michael J. Sletten, executive director of the River Forest Park District. “It draws thousands of residents. We have a lot of entertainment. We have about 70 entries that will include four bands.” Some of the marchers will be handing out candy and promotional items to the parade-watchers.

The event concludes with a memorial service. The River Forest Service Club, a cosponsor of the event with the Park District, River Forest Parks Foundation and the Village of River Forest, chooses River Forest military people to honor. This year, they are saluting 22 active members of the armed services and three individuals who retired from the military.

Afterwards, all the attendees will be treated to a hotdog lunch.
