This year’s Franklin Park Fest will include trains, live music and a special event to celebrate the village’s 125th anniversary.
Jazz will be the theme the first day of the festival on June 8. The opening act will be the Bobby Lewis Quintet followed by the Buddy Rich Big Band featuring Gregg Potter.
“Buddy’s daughter [Cathy Rich] will be there to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Buddy Rich’s birth,” said Franklin Park Village President Barrett Pedersen.
In addition to jazz, the June 8 festivities will feature historical exhibit displays and special guest speakers to honor the founding families of Franklin Park.
Another festival highlight will take place on June 10, when families and train enthusiasts will be able to check out historic trains that will be parked on the tracks next to the festival.
“We’re going to have a train car that has a dome for the whole length of the car, not just part of it,” said Pedersen.
Admission to Franklin Park Fest, including access to the entertainment and train viewing, is free. No bicycles, dogs or skateboards will be admitted to the festival.
