Singer-songwriters Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have teamed-up for a collaborative LP as well as a fall tour which includes three stops in Chicago.
Barnett and Vile will bring their “An Evening with Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile” tour to Rockefeller Chapel at University of Chicago Thursday, October 26, Thalia Hall Friday, October 27 and Empty Bottle Saturday, October 28 as part of the venue’s #EB25 anniversary series.
The duo will be backed by its all-star band “Sea of Lice,” which features Sleater-Kinney’s Janet Weiss, Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa, Rob Laasko of Vile’s Violators and Katie Harkin of Harkin.
In a statement on the new lineup, Vile said, “A cookin’ band and an intercontinental country duo for the ages — minus the country.”
After meeting in 2014 when Barnett scored a support slot opening for Vile at Abbottsford Convent in Australia, they kept in touch over the years and discussed working together the next time Vile was in Melbourne.
The album will be released later this year in a joint effort by Matador Records, Marathon Artists and Milk! Records.
In addition to the album and tour, Barnett and Vile have partnered with Arcade Fire-affiliated organization Plus1 to donate $1 from every ticket sold to the ACLU and its work defending and protecting civil rights.
Australian artist Jen Cloher will serve as tour opener.
Presale tickets go on sale Wednesday at noon. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketweb.
