The annual Block Party on Sunday in Tinley Park will celebrate the village’s 125th birthday.

From noon to 7 p.m., attendees can enjoy live music on two stages, family activities, food and beverages, Tinley Park special events coordinator Vicki Sanchez said. The free event will be on Oak Park Avenue from 171st Street to Hickory Street.

“It’s really just going to be a big birthday party,” Sanchez said. “This is just a family friendly event for Tinley Park residents to come out and enjoy.”

Volunteers on the city’s MainStreet commission organized the free event. Tinley Park was incorporated in 1892.

Sanchez said former American Idol contestant Gina Glocksen will perform, a regional Battle of the Bands competition will take place, and there also will be a show from a Blue’s Brothers tribute band.

But the party’s lineup will not strictly consist of live music. There will be a zip line, classic car show, beanbag tournament, crafts and rides, Sanchez said.

Regardless of who is in attendance, Sanchez said the schedule offers plenty of activities for visitors to enjoy at the block party that typically attracts about 15,000 attendants.

Commission chairperson Beth Fahey agreed, saying the event showcases “the best of Tinley Park.”

“It really brings out the best elements, the most fun elements of Tinley Parkers,” Fahey said. “We’re celebrating the reason for us to all get together, which is that we’re an awesome town for over 100 years.”
