
Alexander Muniz is a camp counselor for Veteran’s Park District. He said he has big goals for himself after he graduates from East Leyden High School.
Q: Where did you grow up and go to school?
A: I grew up in River Grove. I go to East Leyden High School. I’m going to be a senior.
Q: What activities are you involved in at Leyden?
A: I’m in gymnastics, and I was in wrestling.
Q: What’s your favorite event in gymnastics?
A: My favorite event is the rings. I can do the iron cross.
Q: What do you do at St. Cyprian?
A: I have been on several mission trips with St. Cyprian. I also play my trombone in the church band.
Q: Tell me about your summer job as a counselor with Veteran’s Park District.
A: This is my first year as a counselor. I work with the kids in the 10-12 age group. It’s a pretty nice camp. We do a lot of activities with the kids.
Q; Where do the students go for field trips?
A: They go to Gouin Pool. We go to Brookfield Zoo, too.
Q: What do you like the most about being a counselor?
A: Most of the kids enjoy when I plan different activities. The kids really respect me. It’s a lot of fun playing with them.
Q: Besides working, what are your other plans for the summer?
A: I want to see the new “Transformers” movie. I’m also going camping and going to Six Flags.
Q: What are your plans after you graduate from East Leyden?
A: After I graduate high school, I’m going into the U.S. Air Force. I am hoping to serve there for five years. Then I want to enter the police academy. I hope to become a police officer.
Q: Why do you want to be a police officer?
A: I’ve wanted to be a police officer since I was 5 years old. I want to help my community and give back.
