Authorities were unable to find a body when Metra Milwaukee District-West Line trains were stopped Tuesday afternoon after a train was thought to have hit a pedestrian on the West Side, authorities said.
The pedestrian was thought to have been hit by an inbound Milwaukee District-West Line train around 5:30 p.m. near Sacramento and Grand avenues, Metra spokeswoman Sylvia Cooper said.
Though the initial report was of a person hit by a train, Cooper said it was unclear if someone was hit or it might have been a near miss. Fire officials were unable to find someone who had been hit by the train, according to a Chicago Fire Department spokesman. Metra police and fire officials walked about a mile along the tracks with no sign of a body or clothing from a possible victim, she said.
The incident prompted Metra to halt inbound and outbound trains on its Milwaukee West and North Central lines, Cooper said.
