High school quarterback Cordel Littlejohn, who had orally committed to Illinois last month, posted on Twitter late Tuesday that the school pulled its scholarship offer.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound dual-threat QB from Roswell, Ga., didn’t give details, saying only that the Illini “took away” his offer less than a month after he committed.
“I just want everyone to know I am no longer committed to the University of Illinois,” Littlejohn wrote. “Not by choice, my scholarship was just took away. After they allowed me to commit, post on all my social media accounts and even after I set up my official visit.
“After being 100 percent committed, my recruiting process is now back open so please contact me if you are serious about recruiting me, only if you are serious. I don’t want to feel this feeling again. It’s embarrassing for me to have come back and tell my family and friends about this. It hurts but I refuse to let this hold me back!!”
Littlejohn, a three-star recruit, is ranked No. 39 at his position in the 2018 class, according to 247Sports.com. Before committing to Illinois, he had an offer from Tulane.
Illinois had already received an oral commitment from Coran Taylor of Peoria, also a dual-threat QB, when Littlejohn committed.
Earlier this month, M.J. Rivers of Frisco, Texas, became a third dual-threat quarterback to commit.
