Glencoe resident Daniella Weisman and her husband, Neil, have three children, ages 6, 5 and 3. She is a stay-at-home mother for now, but plans to go back to being a buyer in the fashion industry. She is originally from Brazil and has 12 tattoos.
Q: What did you enjoy most about being in the fashion industry?
A: This is what I have done my entire life, so I don’t know anything different. I love fashion… It was not boring. I liked the adventure of just being in different places.
Q: Do you miss it?
A: My first year of motherhood was really hard because I had to give it up and enter this whole new world. I was 34 when I had my first child, so it was different. I always wanted to be a mother; no one is prepared for it. But I feel blessed as I am able to raise my children.
Q: How did you meet your husband?
A: He was in Brazil on vacation and we had mutual friends, and one of his best friends was dating this Brazilian girl, and her sister was one of my best friends. So we somehow got in the same group and we dated for two years long distance. And after two years, we got married. He owns a company in Northbrook, and it was easier for me to quit my job and just move here.
Q: What was the hardest part of moving to the United States?
A: I didn’t speak English. That was probably the biggest challenge. I was very successful personally, but I had to become a student, that was the hardest part. But I thought it was worth it. It took me about two years to learn the language.
Q: What do you like about tattoos?
A: Once you get your first one and you get over the fear of how painful it is, you become addicted to it. The first one had no meaning, but now all of them are part of my life and have meaning to me, and I just love them.
