Red Line service in the State Street subway was disrupted for almost an hour Thursday afternoon because of a power outage, with some trains stuck between stations, officials said.

The power went out on the northbound subway tracks about 2 p.m., forcing northbound trains to be rerouted to the elevated portion of the “L” between Fullerton Avenue and Cermak Road, said a CTA spokeswoman.

Southbound trains were also rerouted later as fire crews checked the scene. Shuttle bus service was put in place.

Service started up again about 2:50 p.m.

There were reports of two trains stuck between stations in the subway, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said. But no passengers had to be evacuated, said CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski.

The “power disruption” did not appear to be related to an earlier incident in which someone reported seeing a person on the Red Line subway trains at the North/Clybourn station, Hosinski said.

The CTA’s website had updated information on travel.
