There were plenty of tricks, treats and wagging tails during the Halloween celebration Oct. 29 at Maple Park.
The “Tricks, Treats and Tails” event was a partnership between the Park District of Oak Park and the Oak Park-based Animal Care League, which allowed four-legged friends to enjoy some trick-or-treating and Halloween fun.
“We had costume contests, music, snacks and more,” said park district program manager Amanda Heiman. “Dogs would check in and get treat bags so they could go around to various tents in the park to get little treats.”
The event attracted 35 dogs and their families while allowing pet owners to have some fun as well.
“We had four different categories of costume contests, a trick-off where people could sign up to do tricks for our judges, and we had music, popcorn and hot chocolate,” Heiman said. “It was a great way for people to get out with their dogs to celebrate Halloween.”
The event raised $165 for the Animal Care League through entry fees, as well as several more dollars in yet-to-be counted donations made during the party.
“This is the first time we’ve done this in partnership with the Animal Care League, and it was a huge success,” Heiman said. “It was a bigger success than we anticipated, and we’ll be hosting it again [next year].”
