Name: Caroline Smith
Year in school: Sophomore
School: Barrington
Sport: Girls golf
Best game: Smith shot a 2-under 70 in the final round of the Class 2A girls golf state tournament on Oct. 14 at Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth. Smith tied for second at the tournament to help the Fillies finish in second place as a team. Smith’s final round of 70 tied for the lowest score in any round at the tournament.
Quote: “Watching Caroline and Stephanie (Su) walk to the podium to get their individual medals is something I will never forget,” coach Jodi Schoeck said. “You can’t anticipate what will happen at state, and every moment is a special one with this team.”

Season stats: Franklin had 69 goals, two short of the state record held by Gordon Tech’s Robert Meschback (1976), as he led the Green Wave (26-1) into the Class 1A state finals with a 2-1 win over Parker in the Lisle Supersectional. Franklin has 138 goals in his career, which ranks in the top 10 in the state.

Name: Jack Terry
Year in school: Senior
School: Prospect
Sport: Cross Country
Season stats: Terry has finished in the top six at four large meets this fall. He set a personal record by running three miles in 14 minutes, 48.8 seconds at the Peoria Invitational on Sept. 30.
Best game: Terry won the Class 3A Hoffman Estates Regional title on Oct. 21 by finishing in 15:12.6. His performance helped the Knights finish second as a team and qualify for sectionals.
