East Aurora School District 131 board members have narrowed their list of superintendent candidates to three, board members said.
They declined to identify the three candidates. Board member Kim Hatchett, who is leading superintendent search efforts, said it was “out of respect for those people.” She has previously said the board would be conducting a confidential search.
East Aurora has been under the leadership of two interim superintendents for nearly two years, and is working with the search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to find a new permanent superintendent. The board first hired the firm only to conduct surveys and gather input as part of a search process, then in February elected to have the firm continue working with the district and conduct a full search.
The consultants initially presented seven candidates to the board, Hatchett said. Board members, except one who was not present, interviewed six of the candidates in early April, and narrowed the field to three, she said.
“We all know that we’re not going to find any one person who can do everything,” she said. “But everything that was stressed with the board was that leadership was a top quality in the candidate.”
Each of the candidates had strong leadership skills and would bring assets to the district, she said.
The board expects to interview the remaining three candidates in a second round of interviews in May.
