Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Illinois’ connection with St. Louis football power Trinity Catholic paid off again Thursday with a commitment from three-star prospect Bryce Childress.

Childress played at Trinity Catholic last season for coach Cory Patterson, whom Illinois hired as its tight ends coach in January. The Illini landed a commitment from five-star Trinity Catholic quarterback Isaiah Williams in March.

Recruiting websites have the 5-foot-9, 155-pound Childress rated as a cornerback, but Illini Inquirer reported that new offensive coordinator Rod Smith sees Childress as a potential slot receiver.

The No. 18 prospect in Missouri in 247Sports.com’s Class of 2019 composite rankings, Childress had scholarship offers from programs such as Nebraska, Louisville and Kentucky.

“Thanks to all schools that gave me a opportunity to play at the next … but I am now committed to the university of Illinois,” he posted on social media.

Childress is the Illini’s fifth commitment in the Class of 2019 and the second in as many days. Phillips cornerback Joseph Thompson flipped his commitment from Iowa State to Illinois on Wednesday.
