Illinois state police are investigating a body that was found Tuesday afternoon under a Kennedy Expressway overpass downtown.

State police received a call around 12:30 p.m. from the Chicago Police Department about a body near northbound Interstate 90/94 at Lake Street, State Police Trooper Philip Ayala said.

The person was pronounced dead at 12:34 p.m. on scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which released no information on the person’s age or identity.

Officer Norma Pelayo, a Chicago police spokeswoman, said Tuesday evening that a police dispatcher didn’t see anything on the board about a call made earlier Tuesday afternoon.

The right lane was blocked Tuesday afternoon while police were on scene, according to WGN-Ch. 9.

The identity of the body was not known and the death was under investigation, Ayala said.
