The Forest Preserve District of Cook County and Friends of the Chicago River release turtles with transmitters into the Sag Quarries on Oct. 4, 2018. The release will test whether the turtles will swim to recently restored native habitat and nest there. But the release was really about something much bigger: using turtles to fight the uphill campaign against invasive species.
