St. Charles fire officials believe a boat found near the Fox River dam early Tuesday morning came loose from its moorings and no one was on board.

Firefighters responded to a 2 a.m. call about of a boat going over the dam and a possible victim in the water, a news release said. The boat was trapped in a recirculating current at the bottom of the dam, but a fire department search of the area found no sign of anyone having been on the craft.

The boat was recovered and moved to the canoe launch at Mount St. Mary Park, the release said. St. Charles police are attempting to locate the owner using registration information found on the boat.
