A teenage girl was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday morning after being hit by a vehicle on Belvidere Road in Waukegan.

According to Waukegan Police Department Cmdr. Joe Florip, the collision occurred on Belvidere near Keller Avenue around 6:30 a.m., and traffic was blocked for a period of time between Keller and Lewis Avenue as the scene was being investigated.

“It was a serious accident,” he said, so traffic investigators were called to the scene. He added the driver of the vehicle stopped and was cooperating with investigators.
