The first baby born in the Southland in the new year appears to be Adaiya Denise Epps.
Baby Adaiya was born at 4:37 a.m. at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest.
She weighs 7 pounds 11 ounces and is 20.5 inches in length.

Her parents, Diedra and Anthony Epps, live in Chicago and received a gift basket from the hospital for having the first baby born there in the new decade.
Also on New Year’s Day, a baby girl was born at 10:49 a.m. at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox to Braidwood parents.
Details were not immediately available Wednesday afternoon.
A Silver Cross spokeswoman said several more moms were in labor New Year’s Day.
One of the first babies to be born in Chicago was Phillip Benjamin Brown.
He was born at 12:58 a.m. at Illinois Masonic in Chicago to parents Stephanie Travis and Benjamin Brown from Chicago.
Baby Phillip weighs 6 pounds, 14 ounces and is 19.5 inches in height.
No New Year’s Day arrivals were reported at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ingalls Memorial in Harvey or Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields as of Wednesday afternoon
