An arrest has been made after several people were punched by a man near the Harold Washington Library in the Loop on Friday morning, police said.
Police spokeswoman Sally Bown, who was citing preliminary information, said officers received the first call about the situation about 8:50 a.m.
“There was a service call placed for a battery in the 400 block of South Plymouth Street,” Bown said. Then, other similar requests for police service came in, all of which were around the area of the 400 block of South State Street, near the library.
A male suspect was taken into custody after “multiple battery incidents,” according to police spokeswoman Kellie Bartoli.
It was unclear how badly injured the victims were, but at least one woman suffered a bloody nose and was treated on the scene by emergency responders, Bown said.
As of about 12:15 p.m., officers remained on the scene.
A Chicago Fire Department spokesman had no further information.
