Oracle is canceling its upcoming conference in Chicago due to health concerns associated with the coronavirus.
It is the second announcement of a canceled event at McCormick Place in three days. On Monday, the International Housewares Association pulled the plug on its annual trade-only event, The Inspired Home Show, which was scheduled for March 14-17 and expected to generate $77 million in spending on Chicago hotels, restaurants, transportation and entertainment.
The computer technology company’s event, scheduled for March 24-26 and titled Modern Business Experience, was expected to draw 5,500, according to McCormick Place spokeswoman Cynthia McCafferty.
“Due to increasing concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, and to help protect the health and safety of our customers, employees, partners, and everyone who helps host the event, Oracle is postponing the in-person component of our upcoming Oracle Modern Business Experience conference,” Oracle said on the event’s website.
Oracle is moving the conference online, broadcasting a free, live event on March 24.
Attendees for the Chicago conference will receive free admission to Oracle OpenWorld, a similar conference scheduled for Las Vegas in September. Oracle is offering a full refund to those who can’t attend the show later this year.
