Judson University’s spring commencement has been rescheduled to Sept. 19, the university announced.
The graduation ceremony had been scheduled for May 2, but the Elgin-based college was forced to postpone it in response to the governor’s stay-at-home mandate due to coronavirus pandemic. The class of 2020 will now receive their diplomas during fall homecoming week, officials said.
Additional details on the commencement will be released in the summer. The commencement will be broadcast on Facebook, according to the announcement.
Because of the rescheduled commencement, Judson will be celebrating the graduates next week through social media, virtual events and awards announcements.
Commencement speaker K. Shellette Stewart will speak with students and others via a Facebook Live discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Stewart has more than 20 years of leadership experience in strategic business planning, marketing and national account sales with Fortune 500 companies, including Coca-Cola and BellSouth Corp./AT&T. According to a Judson news release, she is a Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Program specialist and holds a doctorate in business administration.
Stewart, a Harvard University alumnus, currently oversees strategic partnerships with global corporations for Harvard Business School. She is also the principal and founder of Stewart Consulting.
“Judson Trustee Larry Drake introduced me to Dr. Stewart and I am so pleased to learn about her expertise in business as well as her faith commitment,” Judson President Gene Crume said in the release.
“At Judson, we believe that our students and alumni learn a great deal from interacting with successful business leaders and educators, such as Dr. Stewart, and we are pleased to make this opportunity available to our graduating class.”
Stewart is author of the book, “Revelations in Business: Connecting Your Business Plan with God’s Purpose and Plan for Your Life.”
