ELGIN TO UNVEIL NEW CITY PUZZLE, ART SATURDAY

An Elgin cityscape artwork created by folk artist Eric Dowdle, a giant puzzle wall based on Dowdle’s art and manhole covers designed by local artist Alisa Duda will be unveiled at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at DuPage Court in downtown Elgin.

Dowdle’s piece is part of his “Land That I Love” tour, which marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, according to a news release. On the tour, Dowdle is visiting towns across the country for which he’s created works that are made into puzzles available for purchase.

The Elgin puzzles, made in 500-piece and 1,000-piece editions, will be sold Saturday and locally by area vendors before becoming available online.

Elgin marketing specialist Heather Moore said 500-piece puzzles will cost $24.95 and 1,000-piece puzzles $27.99.

Duda’s Elgin-themed manhole covers are part of a permanent public art installation called The Heart of Elgin. Prints will be available for purchase and attendees are welcome to bring T-shirts on which the manhole art can be printed.

“If people bring their own T-shirt, they can have the manhole cover artwork printed on it for free. If they plan on purchasing a T-shirt onsite, then the fee will be $15 each,” Moore said.
