A 15-year-old Waukegan boy found lying in the street after being shot Wednesday morning was in serious but stable condition, police said hours later.
The investigation into the shooting remains “open and active,” according to a news release from the Waukegan Police Department. No one has been arrested in connection to the shooting.
Waukegan officers were dispatched at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday to the area of Clarke Avenue and Besley Place where they found the boy shot and lying in the street, according to the release.


The boy was taken to an area hospital, according to the release.
Investigators with the Waukegan Police Department’s criminal investigations division believe that the boy was the intended target but are unclear of the motive behind the shooting, according to the release. Multiple casings were found, but the department did not release the exact number or caliber on Wednesday.
