John Walsh named to Utilities Board
John Walsh has been named to the Valparaiso Utilities Board. Since 1996, Walsh has served as president of Heat Wagon, Inc. in Valparaiso, and formerly served as vice president of Walsh and Kelly, Inc. He has served on the board of directors for the Porter County Community Foundation since 2013 and is currently serving as chairman. Walsh has been long-term member of the Valpo Chamber and has served as a director and as a member of the Valparaiso Rotary. He also is on the Finance Committee for St. Paul Catholic Church. Walsh holds a BS in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
New directors appointed to hospital leadership team
Methodist Hospitals has named two new directors to the hospital’s leadership team: Claire B. O’Neill, director of system transformation; and Duane R. Seaborne, MSN, BSN, RN, CNOR, director of surgical services. O’Neill came to Methodist from the Sinai Health System in Chicago where she was Director of Financial Operations for its acute care hospitals. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business administration from Fordham University. Seaborne came to Methodist from the NeuroDiagnostic Institute in Indianapolis, and has managed surgical services at Franciscan Alliance hospitals, Wishard Health Services in Indianapolis (now Sidney and Louis Eskenazi Hospital) and IU Health. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kent State University and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from Indiana State University.
Kyle Yelton chosen for Board of Zoning Appeals
Kyle Yelton has been named to the Valparaiso Board of Zoning Appeals. Yelton is a technology consultant in the medical field with the firm Arthrex/Medwest where he has served for nearly four years and has distinguished himself as Sales Associate of the Year. He has served on the Porter County Plan Commission, the Board of Directors for the Valparaiso Boys and Girls Club and served as assistant football coach for Chesterton High School. He is a graduate of the Valpo Chamber’s Leadership Academy and a lifelong Porter County resident. Yelton is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Local couple receives Outdoor Ethics Award
The Izaak Walton League of America presented the 2020 Outdoor Ethics Award to Paul and Elaine Anderson of Lowell for their years of service to the public and to the Diana Chapter of the League. Paul has been a 4-H shooting instructor for 34 years, a DNR Hunter’s Education instructor for 34 years, an NRA instructor and Range Officer, and a Boy Scout Leader for more than 30 years. Elaine has been a Hunter’s Education instructor for 34 years, an NRA instructor and Range Officer, an Indiana NRA teacher instructor for 30 years and an NRA Home Defense and Women’s Firearms Instructor. The award recognizes the Anderson’s for their commitment to firearms safety and to the community.
Kari Bennett selected for Utilities Board
Kari Bennett has been named to the Valparaiso Utilities Board. Bennett has more than 19 years of experience with Centier Bank as a loan officer where she has been named Lender of the Year nine of the past 10 years. She is active in the field of housing, financing, new construction and development, and serves on the Board for the Habitat for Humanity of Porter County. Bennett is a member of the Home Builders Association of Northwest Indiana and the Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors as well as the Valpo Chamber and Tri Kappa service sorority. She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
