
Police are searching for two men who stole a Chicago resident’s car after intentionally bumping her while she was driving through south Oak Park.
The resident told police she was involved in a minor traffic crash at about 4:26 a.m. Sept. 14 in the 900 block of South Ridgeland Avenue.
Following the crash, two men exited their car while the Chicago resident prepared to exit hers to look for damages, police said.
While doing so, one of the men pulled the resident from her car, police said. Both men then entered the resident’s car and fled the area, police said. Total estimated loss is $17,000.
Following the incident, Oak Park police posted on Twitter that incidents like this are “an old hijacking ruse,” and encouraged drivers involved in such accidents to inspect damages in a well-lit area or to drive to the Oak Park police station, 123 Madison St., before leaving their car.
According to the resident, the first man involved in the hijacking is described as Black, between 16 and 22 years old, standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a thin build and wearing a red shirt and red and black jeans.
The second man is described as Black, between 16 and 22 years old and wearing a dark shirt and green pants.
