An Elgin man accused of uploading child sexual assault/abuse material to a Facebook page has been arrested on child pornography charges, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Elgin police launched an investigation into Jose J. Chavez Hernandez, 51, of the first block of Longwood Place, after receiving information about the videos posted March 10 from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, a state’s attorney’s office news release said.

The center learned of the videos when notified by Facebook, the release said.

It’s alleged Chavez Hernandez uploaded the videos in Elgin using his cellphone, the release said. The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Chavez Hernandez was arrested Oct. 4 and has been charged with two counts of reproducing child pornography/victim younger than 13, one count of disseminating child pornography and three counts of possessing child pornography. All of the charges are felonies.

Chavez Hernandez is being held in the Kane County jail in lieu of $1 million bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 9.
