A Chicago man is facing felony robbery charges in connection with a string of armed robberies at two tollway oases on Interstate 94 that span Cook and Lake counties, state police said.

Jenell C. Fenderson, 28, has been charged with felony robbery after authorities investigated three robberies last year at the Lake Forest tollway oasis in Lake County and the O’Hare Oasis in Cook County, which are both operated by the Illinois Tollway Authority, according to an Illinois State Police news release Friday.

Fenderson is charged with aggravated robbery by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, a Class 1 felony, and a Cook County grand jury handed down an armed robbery indictment against him, which authorities said is a Class X felony.

Authorities said in the release Friday that the string of robberies began May 10 at the northbound O’Hare Oasis followed by other thefts at the westbound Lake Forest Oasis May 21 and Sept. 2.

State police agents discovered similarities in the three robberies, including through fingerprint comparison, that led to Fenderson being identified as a suspect, according to the release.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli said Friday that Fenderson remains jailed in Lake County.
