Two people are dead and three others were wounded in shootings from 8 p.m. Thursday to Friday morning downtown and on the South, Southwest, Near North and Near Northwest sides, according to Chicago police.

About 8:50 p.m. Thursday, an 18-year-old man and another male were in an argument until the male took out a handgun and began to threaten the 18-year-old in the 6700 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood, police said. The 18-year-old then took out his own gun and began firing at the male, who returned fire, shooting the 18-year-old man in the abdomen. The male ran from the scene.

The 18-year-old was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

About 2:10 a.m. Friday, a 38-year-old man was found lying on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head in the 400 block of North Oakley Boulevard in the West Town neighborhood, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In other shootings overnight:

About 1:30 a.m. Friday, a 31-year-old man took himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the hip in fair condition, police said. The shooting occurred in the 800 block of North Cambridge Avenue in Cabrini-Green. The man would not give details to police on the shooting.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, a 15-year-old girl was shot in the abdomen while inside a vehicle traveling southbound on Lake Shore Drive near the Buckingham Fountain, police said. A relative drove her to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, and she was transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was traveling in his vehicle northbound on Pulaski Road when he heard several shots in the 5000 block of South Pulaski Road in the Archer Heights neighborhood, police said. He had a graze wound to the head and was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

No one was in custody.
