Community Healthcare System to host virtual job fair

Community Healthcare System will host a virtual job fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Like a traditional job fair, this virtual job fair will bring together Community Healthcare System recruiters and job seekers to discuss a variety of available positions. Registered attendees will enter a virtual waiting room and pair with a Human Resources representative for an interview. Registration is required in advance at COMHS.org/careers to attend the event. Job opportunities are available throughout the healthcare system, including the hospitals, clinics and physician offices. Benefit-eligible positions include health insurance, paid time off and retirement contribution. In addition to the virtual fair, job seekers are encouraged to drop in during open interviews, which will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. every Thursday through August 19 at the following locations: Community Hospital/CHS Conference Center, 9201 Calumet Ave., Munster; St. Catherine Hospital, 4321 Fir St., East Chicago; St. Mary Medical Center, 1500 S. Closure of Little Calumet River Trail for Rehab Project

The Superintendent of Indiana Dunes National Park will close 1.5 miles of the Little Calumet River Hiking Trail for public safety and resource protection. The temporary closure begins on Monday to allow a contractor to replace approximately 1,000 feet of boardwalk along the trail. This work is expected to last no more than 120 days.

During this closure, hikers will still have access to the adjacent Bally/Chellberg Trails along with another 48 miles of trails located throughout Indiana Dunes National Park. These trails include Dune Ridge, Miller Woods, West Beach, Heron Rookery, Tolleston, Great Marsh and the Pinhook Bog Upland Trail. Walk and Talk with a physician at Gabis Arboretum

Community Healthcare System and Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest are collaborating to host Walk and Talk, a program to help residents walk their way toward wellness. The inaugural event steps off at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the arboretum, 450 W 100 N, Valparaiso. Attendees will meet at the Celebration Rose Pavilion and walk the Heron Pond Trail (0.28 mile). This trail is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers suitable for mulch. Danielle Harris, DO, a family medicine physician with Community Care Network, will join the walk and offer tips on how to enjoy a healthy and safe summer. Hobart Prairie Grove bike ride with a ranger

Bring your bike and helmet to join a park ranger at Hobart Prairie Grove Trailhead for a ride near Robinson Lake from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Meet the ranger at the parking lot, 5250 S. Liverpool Road, Hobart. This trail winds through some rare oak savanna habitat and will be lined with colorful, summer wildflowers. Church to host Blessing of the Vehicles

In celebration of St. Christopher’s Feast Day, the Salvatorian Fathers will bless vehicles following the Holy Masses at 9 a.m. (English) and at 10:30 a.m. and Noon (both in Polish) on July 25, at the Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine, 5755 Pennsylvania St., Merrillville. Legacy Foundation awards funding to address needs

Legacy Foundation has granted $106,800 in funding to 19 nonprofit organizations serving communities in Lake County. The grants range from $2,000 to $22,800. Legacy Foundation’s Transform Lake County Grant Cycle accepts applications twice a year from nonprofit organizations serving any city or town in Lake County. Nonprofits can deliver programming across a variety of service areas such as arts and culture, economic development, education, environment or animal welfare, health or human services. The foundation will begin accepting grant proposals for the fall/winter cycle on Oct. 1. Nonprofit organizations with upcoming events can apply for a sponsorship grant at legacyfdn.org/nonprofits/sponsorships. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis for charitable events that are open to the public and held in Lake County.
