Naperville ranks 4th in state for DUI arrests

In its annual report, the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists found that the Naperville Police Department ranked fourth in the state for most drunk driving arrests.

The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists has been conducting an annual survey of nearly 700 Illinois police departments for 31 years. Because of its size, Chicago is in its own category.

The survey revealed that the top department in the state for drunk driving arrests is the Decatur Police Department, which made 344 arrests in 2020.

Naperville Police Department was ranked fourth, arresting 242 drunk drivers, according to AAIM.

Other nearby communities also fared well.

Elgin ranked fifth with 233 arrests and Aurora ranked 11th with 200 drunk driving arrests, according to AAIM.

Naperville police made 53 fewer arrests for drunk driving in 2020 than it did in 2019.

The AAIM says that most departments experienced a decrease in drunk driving in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders.
