Masks mandatory in all Will government buildings

Face coverings will be required of anyone who goes into a Will County government building, regardless of whether they are vaccinated for COVID-19 or not, Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant said.

Previously, only people who were unvaccinated needed to wear a mask inside the buildings, The change was triggered by a large increase in COVID cases locally and nationally, a news release said.

The Centers for Disease Control and the Illinois Department of Public Health have recommended the policy be changed anywhere where the transmission rate has be become “substantial,” as has been the case in Will County. The number of cases has increased threefold since June 27, the county release said.

Oktoberfest at Naper Settlement set for Oct. 1-2

Tickets are on sale for Naper Settlement’s annual Oktoberfest, scheduled for 5 to 10 p.m. Oct. 1 and noon to 10 p.m. Oct. 2.

The annual fall celebration is held inside the event’s signature beer tent, where there will be traditional German cuisine, live polka bands during the day, rock music at night, themed contests, and a selection of local and traditional Oktoberfest beer varieties, a news release said.

A children’s area with activities for the whole family will be open Oct. 2.

“We have an exciting weekend planned under our giant heated tent, featuring delicious German food and beer, live music, and activities for both children and adults,” said Adison Glick, special events team leader at Naper Settlement. “After a year off, we are ready for the return of Oktoberfest and cannot wait for the community to come together again to celebrate with us.”

Tickets are $15 adults, $10 for ages 4 to 12, and free for Naper Settlement members and children under 4. The Settlement is located at 523 S. Webster St.

Volunteers plant landscaping at Commissioners Park

Landscape beds at the Commissioners Park playground have new pollinator-friendly plants thanks to a group of volunteers and a $15,000 grant, which is also helping pay for new park amenities.

Realtors from Century 21 Affiliated of Naperville and the Philanthropic Education Association service organizations planted purple coneflower, butterfly weed, penstemon and blazing star this past week.

The real estate firm is working to help the Naperville Park District renovate the Commissioners Park playground.

Century 21 Realtor Sarah Mara won a grant worth nearly $15,300 in 2020 from the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors and the National Organization of Realtors to help upgrade the playground.

The grant paid for two picnic tables, a game table, seven park benches, a bike rack and a bee spring toy for the park at 3704 111th St. Work is expected to be finished by early September.

Autumn park district program guide online Wednesday

The Naperville Park District’s autumn program guide will be available online on Wednesday, Aug. 4.

Residents can go to www.napervilleparks.org/programguides to check out the fall programs and special events, which include Wonderful World of Wheels, Halloween Happening, Winter Break camps, fitness, dance, and science and athletic programs.

New programs include 3D Print and Design, JR Maker Boot Camp, Senior Stretch and a trip to the Air Classics Museum.

Resident online registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9. Those who do not live in Naperville can register starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12.

Youth basketball registration begins at noon Tuesday, Sept. 14, with more details available Sept. 1 at napervilleparks.org/napervilleyouthbasketball.
