Save the Dunes event to celebrate Monarchs’ migration
Join Save the Dunes for the Monarch Music Fest, a celebration of the journey and migration of the Monarch butterfly through the region, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 12 at The Brewery Lodge and Supper Club, 5727 N 600 W, Michigan City. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Save the Dunes’ work to protect and advocate for the Indiana Dunes, Lake Michigan and the surrounding natural areas. Tickets for the 21 and older event start at $40 online and are available until the event reaches capacity (250 people limit). Each ticket includes entrance, food and two beer tickets. Beer, wine, and cocktails for an additional cost will be available on-site. Live entertainment will be provided by Johnny V & Friends, Alex Akers, and Chicken Dolphin Band. CURE offers online sessions for learners of all ages
Indiana University Northwest’s Center for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE) offers a variety of remote learning opportunities for all ages through its Community Garden, Adult Education, Reading Skills and Senior University programs. CURE is enrolling now for Fundamental Courses with 24/7 access for adults, young adults and teens. All classes start new every month. The cost varies. Fundamental courses include instructor-led courses and self-paced tutorials. Instructor-led courses run for six weeks with monthly start dates and feature an instructor-moderated discussion board that provide interaction with classmates. Self-paced tutorials are designed for completely independent learning, without instructor moderation, and can be started at any time. Fall Leaves Paint Party in the Sportsplex Union Lounge
The Fall Leaves Paint Party will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the Hammond Sportsplex in the Union Lounge, 6630 Indianapolis Blvd. The canvas painting event will feature a hands-on teaching format where guests will learn to paint a fall scene. This event is open to residents as well as non-residents of the City of Hammond. Registration is $35 and is now taking place at the Hammond Sportsplex. The fee includes instruction for the class, all necessary materials and access to the bar for the duration of the event. All participants must be 21 years of age or older. The Lake County Public Library system offers a variety of programs for residents of all ages. The Merrillville branch has four upcoming programs.
