Volunteers needed to deliver meals for DuPage seniors group

The DuPage Senior Citizens Council is seeking volunteers to help deliver meals to area seniors.

Volunteers are required to pick up five shelf-stable meals from the council’s main office at 1990 Springer Drive in Lombard for delivery. Routes typically take about 21/2 hours to complete.

Volunteers can also help area seniors by making phone calls or visits to them.

College of DuPage holding online 9/11 anniversary program

The College of DuPage will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in a livestream presentation at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.

The ceremony will be presented from the college’s Robert J. Miller Homeland Security Education Center and will be broadcast on the College of DuPage’s Facebook page.

Speakers include college President Dr. Brian Caputo; Tom Brady, COD’s Homeland Security Training Institute director; DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick; and Jim Sisson, Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company assistant chief.

During the event, flowers will be placed on the 1,000-pound beam section from the World Trade Center that is housed at the Homeland Education Center.

In a separate event, Mike Fagel, a Homeland Security Training Institute instructor and certified emergency manager, will talk about his experience spending 100 days at Ground Zero in New York at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10. His presentation will be livestreamed at www.cod.edu/911.

Park district’s Wonderful World of Wheels at Whole Foods

Naperville Park District’s Wonderful World of Wheels will be presented from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, in the parking lot of Whole Foods Market at 2607 W. 75th St. in Naperville

A variety of vehicles, including fire trucks, police cars, school buses and the park district’s Reggie the Veggie tractor, which runs on vegetable oil, will be on display for children and their families to check out.

The event is free and is sponsored by Woody Buick GMC, Whole Foods Market Naperville, Texas Roadhouse and Rocket Ice.
