As a senior citizen, I want to thank Walt’s for its many years of service. Jewel is too big, its aisles are too long. When I get home from my weekly shopping I’m exhausted. Walt’s had everything I needed and in small quantities, and I knew where everything was. Walt’s, we seniors miss you.

Irma, Tinley Park

A few months ago, the village of Tinley Park initiated fines on the state of Illinois for the abandoned former mental health center property. Many of the complaints cited, on a smaller scale but no less important, are similar to those seen throughout our south suburbs. Boarded buildings, deterioration, weeds and potholes, to name a few, are long-standing problems, which, like the state’s responsibility to the mental health center, are local government responsibilities which are being ignored and negatively affecting neighborhoods and business districts of their towns.

Pat, I doubt that the president could mandate vaccinations for nursing home staff, governors could. At most Medicare/Medicaid could limit funding going to these places if staff is not vaccinated. But, I wonder what you are really worried about, lack of staff in nursing homes, or the possibility of the stupid collecting unemployment compensation?

It is high time that articles of impeachment be drawn up on the incompetent, negligent and criminal tandem of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. In eight short months, they have done more damage to our country and internationally too than any other presidential duo in America’s 245 year history. They both should go down. Only problem there is Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the House, is next in line. Good grief.

Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that he did not see what’s happening in Kabul happening, and he also stated that he didn’t think the Air Force base, Bagram, was necessary. Either he’s got his marching orders from Joe Biden or he’s just plain stupid. For those two reasons, he should resign immediately, regardless of how long he’s been in the military.
